“The beautiful part of writing is that you don’t have to get it right the first time, unlike, say, a brain surgeon.”
Robert Cormier

As stated in my last SFFS post, The Stranger is a story I am shopping around to different markets with the goal of seeing it published. I thought this story provided pretty good snippets to take part in Science Fiction & Fantasy Saturday. And it has! The comments I received from my previous snippet were very encouraging.

The following snippet shows Ray’s personal side, as this bit highlights a brief exchange with his wife.

Sharla grabbed a leaf and ran it over one of the stranger’s cuts to collect his blood. “I’ll find out.” She started walking away but paused after a few steps.

Ray lowered his eyebrows when he saw her hang her head.

“We need to settle down somewhere,” she said. “It’s not that I don’t think we can handle raising a child in these situations, Ray… I just don’t want to.”

“We’ll settle down,” Ray said.

“When we get pregnant.”
