Science Fiction & Fantasy Saturday is…a web ring of authors who post snippets of their work for comment. In reality, it’s a close-knit group of friends and colleagues working together to support and encourage one another and promote the science fiction and fantasy genres. I am just one author in the midst of awesome authors. To read other snippets, or learn how to join us, visit scififansat.blogspot.com!

tgpThis Saturday starts a brand new string of snippets! I appreciate all of the comments on my previous snippets; you all know how to encourage a guy! For the next several weeks (up until April 13) I’ll be sharing a snippet from a different short story — Acts. It is actually published in Villipede Publications‘ sci-fi anthology, The Glass Parachute. This first snippet is how the story begins.

Tammi stood on the second floor of the ballroom and peered down at the sea of assorted colors before her. Per standard formal attire, the damsels at the meetings wore gowns that matched their natural-born hair color – some shade of violet, orange, or green. Formal attire for gentlemen who lived on Nobile never bred variety, because each one was required to wear a two-piece silver suit.

“This turnout is repulsive,” she whispered just loud enough for the communicator in her ear to transmit.

She looked to her right and saw two damsels in conversation. Tammi glanced at their forearms and saw that each of them had a red band embedded beneath their wrist.

“The new Nobility Act is more repulsive,” her consort, Westin, responded through the communicator. “Limiting the amount of times a year you can take a space tour of the neighboring planets?”

“I swear, if we don’t relocate soon….” Tammi let her statement trail off and she walked toward the stairs.

I hope you enjoyed this snippet! And be sure to check out other snippets by the other authors at scififansat.blogspot.com.
