Science Fiction & Fantasy Saturday!

I recently became aware of Science Fiction & Fantasy Saturday, which is a web ring of authors who post snippets of their science fiction and fantasy work. I thought it would be a great idea to join in, get some comments my work, and it’ll expose me to some other really great writers too.

For my introduction into this ring of authors and bloggers, I chose a snippet from a story entitled The Stranger. It is an unpublished story that is still waiting for a home.

And, yes, I know today isn’t Saturday, but the blog post needs to be up before Saturday… Got it now? 🙂

To set the stage for this snippet, Ray is the captain of a cargo transport ship which was just recently shot down not long after taking flight. And during a recon trip in the area where his ship now rests, a team found and brought back an injured and unconscious man to the infirmary…

Ray watched as Doc penetrated the stranger’s skin with the needle. The next thing he knew, there was a spark, followed by a buzzing, and Doc’s entire body quivered.

“Uncle Doc!”

Doc was knocked to the floor. The smell of seared flesh reached Ray’s nose as he rushed around the table and bent over his uncle.

“Uncle Doc!” He patted his cheek a few times to make his uncle’s eyes stabilize on him. He glanced at Doc’s hand and there was a burn imprint in the shape of the needle he had held. “Uncle Doc, look at me.”  He patted harder.
