I recently became aware of Science Fiction & Fantasy Saturday, which is a web ring of authors who post snippets of their science fiction and fantasy work. I thought it would be a great idea to join in, get some comments my work, and it’ll expose me to some other really great writers too.
For my introduction into this ring of authors and bloggers, I chose a snippet from a story entitled The Stranger. It is an unpublished story that is still waiting for a home.
And, yes, I know today isn’t Saturday, but the blog post needs to be up before Saturday… Got it now? 🙂
To set the stage for this snippet, Ray is the captain of a cargo transport ship which was just recently shot down not long after taking flight. And during a recon trip in the area where his ship now rests, a team found and brought back an injured and unconscious man to the infirmary…
——-
Ray watched as Doc penetrated the stranger’s skin with the needle. The next thing he knew, there was a spark, followed by a buzzing, and Doc’s entire body quivered.
“Uncle Doc!”
Doc was knocked to the floor. The smell of seared flesh reached Ray’s nose as he rushed around the table and bent over his uncle.
“Uncle Doc!” He patted his cheek a few times to make his uncle’s eyes stabilize on him. He glanced at Doc’s hand and there was a burn imprint in the shape of the needle he had held. “Uncle Doc, look at me.” He patted harder.

Loving the suspense!
Thanks!
He’s an alien! He’s a spy! He’s an alien spy! Ooh – exciting.
Haha! Thanks so much!
Great to see you join the fray, man! Welcome to the SFFS crew!
Love the excerpt…and it just goes to show, no good deed goes unpunished. Can’t wait to see this one find a home. 🙂
Thanks, man! Haha, yeah, it’ll find a home soon enough. 🙂
Wow. You can almost feel the Doc’s hair stand on end. Good job!
Thanks, Lyndi!
Sounds to me like this mysterious stranger is not wholly human. Nice snippet!
Maaaaaaaybe. lol. Thanks, Patrick!
SHOCKING! I hope Uncle Doc is okay.
Welcome to SFFS! What a nice introduction.
Just be careful how you expose yourself to us other writers. I, for one, prefer a combination of the traditional trench coat and “bow-chicka-wow-wow” method.
LOL, thanks, JC.
…. Don’t scare off the new guy!
Love the name uncle doc – combining the two terms. Cool suspense and setting. Can’t wait to see what it all means.
Thanks, S.A.!
He may look like a man, but I bet there’s electronics underneath. By the way, Jarn is here; I thought I had signed up but I guess not. Check out http://JarnianConfederation.wordpress.com.
Hmmmmmmmm. 🙂 I’ll check out your blog!
Welcome to the madhouse.. er writer’s group. Honestly, I don’t feel sorry for Uncle Doc at all. That’s what he gets for poking people (??) with needles!
Haha, right?! Lol, thanks, and I appreciate you stopping by!
